2016 was full of several changes we didn’t expect. We sold our home, moved into a new home, changed the kids’ school, joined a new church, sold and bought a car, and Hubby and I started new jobs. Only one of these things was on our goal wall. Oh, and I joined the Catholic church (that’s a whole blog post itself – coming soon).
We decided to sell our home when a little boy used the N-word at Gadget’s school, and we disagreed with how the administration handled it at the public school. Hubby was always a fan of Christian schooling, so we applied at the last minute and were blessed that all three children were accepted into private school. As a result of the new school being about forty minutes ways away, we decided to move closer. We packed up our beautiful home and moved to an older home that’s only three minutes away from the new school. After living there for six years I was putting the final touches in each room, so I was disappointed to sell our finally-decorated nest.
Our garage housed our chalkboard goal wall, and the stairway to the second floor was checkered with canvas images from some of our favorite moments together. I gave Hubby a box of collar stays one Christmas that engraved the highlights of our relationship on the wall… A field of sunflowers that we walked past each morning we spent together in Geneva, memories from the Austin Food & Wine Festival, and the chicken ham we ate after spending a day in Tobago after we got married.
Our 2008 Passat sputtered its last mile, and we traded in the Corolla for an Infiniti. As a result of starting the kids in a new school, we began attending the local church that housed the school. Saying goodbye to a church that has your heart is not easy. It felt like we were breaking up with a close loved one as we shared the news we were leaving.
Not sure what this year will bring, but we have a plan that we’ve submitted to God. Hello 2017.
